The Unitarian Universalist (UU) congregations are one of the few religious groups to affirm and ordain gay and lesbian people. The denomination passed a resolution in 1973 advocating civil and religious rights for all people regardless of affectional orientation. In the 1980's UU's created a program to help congregations go beyond tolerance to welcome gay and lesbian members.
The spirituality group will build upon the UU principles of the inherent worth and dignity of all people and our responsibility to help each other in the spiritual search and in our work to create a more just society. The group will also draw upon the varied religious and spiritual backgrounds of the participants. All gay and lesbian people are invited. (Those affiliated with other religious groups are welcome, as are those who are unaffiliated.) There is no fee. For more information, call Southwest UU, 238-2632.
Short and sweet. Interweave is the new, shorter name for the Western Reserve Unitarian Universalists for Lesbian-Gay Concerns. The name was also chosen by UULGC chapters in Buffalo, Cincinnati, Chicago, and other cities.
